Summary

The first chapter begins with someone asking readers to reach their right arm over their head and touch their left ear. Then the narrator notes that this is something that Gerogie cannot do. When the action begins, it is the last day before Christmas break and Georgie is in class when his friend, Andy, drops his pencil on the floor, which is usually a signal for Georgie. Georgie sees it and volunteers to go to the board to answer a question. On the way back to his desk, Gerogie retrieves a note Andy has written for him saying that he is not to take the bus because Andy’s mother is coming to pick them up from school.
