Chapter 5. When Lestat returns from feeding, he sits with David and listens to him talk. David tells Lestat about his youth in Brazil, of how he met a young man whom he had a passionate affair until the young man's mother placed a curse on him. David returned to Brazil to learn the woman's religion, to become a Candomble priest. It was this experience with the supernatural that led to David's involvement with the Talamasca. Now, recently, David has been studying Faust and the Bible, and this leads to a deep discussion about religion with David admitting to Lestat that he once saw a vision of God and the devil discussing the devil's role in humanity.
