Summary

Ravi and the other servants tried to cajole a story out of Amisha, but she lied and said her stories had left her. She was deeply depressed and felt guilty about Jay’s episode at school. One day, Stephen arrived at her home unsolicited. He implored Amisha to reconsider her attendance at the school. He offered her a creative writing teaching position and promised to personally tutor her in English. She eventually agreed. Amisha thought, “Perhaps her writing was not an affliction to be tolerated, but a gift to be cherished and protected. Her stories were her only passport to places she had never been.
