Summary

In Chapter 19, N notes that he often still thinks about the Old Mission Hotel, though it is impossible now for him to visit. He returned to the hotel and told the concierge he was Daniel Shriver there to retrieve his bag, but the concierge said that his “representative” (127) had already come to get it and she was waiting at the bar. N made his way to the bar and found the guest lecturer sitting there. Suddenly, there was a loud crash in the lobby—a child had knocked over a vase of lilies. When N turned back to the bar, the guest lecturer was gone. However, the briefcase remained. He took it to the parking lot and discovered it was empty and clean inside. The sticky substance was gone. He found another flyer on his car reading “THE MISSIONS...WERE FURNACES OF DEATH...
