Summary

In Chapter 12, N received a phone call from a mysterious woman who asked him to meet her in the Arboretum. She said he would recognize her because they had met before.

In Chapter 13, N arrived at the Arboretum and began looking around as he thought about the Swedish detective from his novel and how he might handle the situation. He found the woman—the guest lecturer—and sat beside her. She told N that she knew he was investigating his father's death and that he should call the Old Mission Hotel again and ask about a different name. She gave him a folded piece of paper.
