Summary

Ariel and Lucy spend the weekend at their house on Shelter Island. Lucy goes out to do errands and comes back drunk, hours later. There are empty beer cans in her car and Ariel is forced to admit that the reason Lucy sometimes behaves strangely is not because she has a medical condition, but because she is still drinking. Ariel puts Lucy to bed, loads the cats into the car and drives back to Manhattan. While driving, Lucy calls her cellphone and threatens to commit suicide. She is on the roof, and she is going to jump. Ariel talks her down and convinces her to go back in the house. Ariel calls a neighbour on the Island to go check on Lucy and phones the police.

Lucy calls back again. She is off the roof, but now she has tied a noose around her...
