Summary

The penultimate section of Kelley's book opens with Chapter 14, which shows Jill meeting Macaulay Connor at Mimi's Place again on her night shift. The two strike up a conversation, and Jill learns that Mac's family owns Connor's Grille in Manhattan - her and Billy's favorite restaurant. After a pleasant bout of flirtation and getting-to-know-you conversation, Mac asks Jill out on a date the next time he's in Nantucket. Jill is "surprised and pleased by the invitation" and happily agrees (161). As soon as she returns home, Billy calls for no particular reason. "'Just calling to check in and hear your voice. How's your day going?'" (161). When Jill tells him about her date, Billy sounds surprised and even a little jealous. He immediately requests that he come visit, and they set up a plan for the next weekend.
