The Speaker
The adult speaker recalls her childhood adventures exploring around her grandparents' property. She remembers repeatedly returning to a burrow-like opening inside a raspberry patch despite the way the thorns prick her skin and the berry juice stains her clothes. At ten years old, the speaker is on the brink of inhabiting the adult world, which she finds confusing and stressful. For this reason, she seeks refuge in the privacy of her Raspberry Room, persevering through the difficulty it takes to reach it. As a result, she is able to escape the hustle and bustle of responsibilities and obligations in the real world.
