Chapters 36-41, Epilogue Summary

In chapter 36 Penn gets a call from Dan Kelly telling him that all his actions have been reported to the FBI by the company owner, a former FBI agent. Penn manages to escape Portman's men and call Caitlin who has news. A man identifying himself as a reporter named Bookbinder will be attending the trial. Penn knows that Stone has survived the gunfire, as Bookbinder is his former partner's name.

Ike calls for a meeting and Penn agrees reluctantly. At the old peanut factory Ike is irrational, asking if Stone said anything. Penn questions him and Ike reveals that he had killed Del Payton in order to avoid prison for a drug charge. Ike has hated himself ever since.

Shots are fired and Ike is hit. Presley is there to kill both men, but Penn manages to shout that...
