Chapters 1-5 Summary

"The Prize" by Julie Garwood tells the story of a Saxon girl whose home is invaded by a Norman soldier who was told to bring her to London as a prize. Nicolaa is a strong woman who is determined to hold on to what is her own. She and Royce are attracted to each other, and they have to learn how to live together in harmony.

In Chapter 1, Nicolaa carefully aims at Baron Royce before shooting the stone out of her sling. She doesn't want to kill him. She just wants to harm him. It's 1066, and the Norman is invading her Saxon home. She had already chased off the first three invaders, but this one isn't so easy. She knows he will win by the end of the day.
