Summary

In Chapter 35: Paul, he is sent to arrest Professor Cohen. Paul is initially angry when Professor Cohen calls him naïve, only to feel ashamed at the thousands of Jews he and the rest of the police force have detained. He convinces himself that it is the work of Odile's father and wonders what he should do.

Chapter 36: Odile starts ten days after Odile learns of Rémy's death when her mother finally allows her to return to the Library. Margaret apologizes for asking Odile to meet Felix and Odile decides she does not want the war to take away their friendship. The Countess mentions that she has not been able to reach Professor Cohen and Paul is upset over something. The next day, Odile tries to deliver books, but Professor Cohen does not answer.
