December 1997. Gus goes to the grocery store and overhears a couple women gossiping about Chris. Gus confronts them only to be told everyone is talking about it because of an article in the local paper. Gus reads the article and believes that it is one sided, based mainly on a series of interviews with Melanie Gold. Gus goes to the newspaper and demands an apology, but the editor has no sympathy for her plight. All the editor will offer is to have the writer interview her and do a series of articles from her point of view. Gus refuses.
