Summary

Jaime and Ángela wait outside the church with the rest of the migrants prepared to board the train. They first climb into a dented van on a bumpy road. Jaime injures his ankle when people fall on top of him. They get out of the van and creep along in the shadows. Ángela pushes Jaime on ahead of her and he worries momentarily that he has lost her. Ángela climbs aboard the train and holds Jaime tightly.

The train begins to move and many of the migrants grow anxious at the confined, dark quarters. A little girl asks Jaime if she can finish his slices of mango, and all of the other passengers share what little food they have with her. The train grows hotter and smellier, but Jaime and Ángela will not take off their jeans due to the money sewn into...
