Summary

In Chapter 9, "November 10, 2007, Rose, Life 1," Rose's colleague, Devonne, notices she has been acting differently, and invites her for drinks. Rose feels "a surge of hope" (81). During happy hour, she meets a man named Oliver. Rose reminds herself she is getting divorced and is allowed to think Oliver is attractive.

In Chapter 10, "October 10, 2008, Rose, Life 2," Rose asks her mother if she and her father ever considered divorce. Her mother says their marriage had "troubles" but they worked "through them" (86). When she hears Rose and Luke are having problems, she urges Rose to have a baby. A baby could act as "the glue" (87). Both women get upset.
