Summary

In Chapter 33, as Sugar cooked breakfast, Merilee watched a weather broadcast stating that the remnants of a Category 4 hurricane were headed toward Sweet Apple. When Lily and Colin left, Colin reminded his mother that if the lights did go out in the storm while they were at their father’s house for the weekend, she should just close her eyes and remember what things looked like when the lights were on. Shortly after the children left, Merilee got a phone call from Cynthia Turlington, the criminal lawyer that Lindi recommended. Cynthia said the police had a warrant out for Merilee’s arrest. She was coming to pick Merilee up so she could turn herself in. Instead of waiting for Cynthia, Merilee went to Heather’s house.
