Summary

Part 1, Chapter 1 opens in the home of the main character, Molly. Molly is married and has two children: toddler Viv and infant Ben. One night, when Molly’s husband David (who is a musician) is out of town for work, Molly hears someone enter the house. Chapter 2 states that Molly works as a paleobiologist. At a nearby dig site, she recently uncovered objects that are about 100 years in age, including a Bible. Chapter 3 shifts back to Molly in her home. Viv says that she saw someone in the house. Molly and Viv grow more frightened. In Chapter 4, the narration states that Molly’s breasts have milk because Ben is nursing.
