The Morningside

The Morningside is symbolic of entrapment. When Sil and her mother first move here, Sil perceives the place as a positive new start for her and her family. Over time, however, the Morningside proves increasingly isolating and lonely. Sil not only has no agency over this realm, but the Morningside also traps its other residents in a limbo between the past and the future.

South Falls Island

South Falls Island is symbolic of deception. According to the Repopulation Program's promises, South Falls Island is where the current Island City residents will soon reside. The island inhabitants are led to believe that they will one day own homes of their own in this idyllic setting.
