Summary

In Chapter 39, Jean-Guy found a picture of Paul taken in the same week that Maria died. He pointed out the smile on Paul’s face and told Armand he did not believe that Paul had killed his daughter. They met Isabelle at the bistro where she showed them the picture of Abigail with Maria, Paul, and Debbie. Her body was bent and twisted, but her eyes were happy and intelligent. Someone had written the words “the last one” (336) on the back of the photograph. Even though Isabelle criticized them for wasting time on a crime she did not think was connected to Debbie’s murder, Armand said they should spend some time trying to determine how Maria had died.
