Summary

In Chapter 8, Armand and Jean-Guy walked past all of the women in the bistro to a table in the back where they could talk privately. Armand told Jean-Guy he wanted an explanation for why Jean-Guy left his post. Jean-Guy had been the only officer allowed to carry a firearm because Armand reasoned they would need the officer in charge outside to be armed in case there was trouble. Jean-Guy has promised he would be outside, but he had abandoned his post. Jean-Guy felt naked when he told Armand that he had gone inside because of his handicapped daughter, because he knew she would be a burden to someone all of her life.

Meanwhile, Haniya Daoud a Sudan-resident who had been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize because she had led a movement for social justice and saved so many people, voices her concern...
