Ira Levinson

Ira Levinson is a ninety-one year old man as the novel begins. Ira is dying of lung cancer and has been told he will only live a few more weeks. Ira decides to move up the schedule of a long held tradition he has shared with his wife, Ruth. For this reason, Ira is driving after dark in a snow storm when he misses a curve and ends up trapped in his car with a broken arm, broken collar bone, and concussion.

As Ira sits in the car and waits for someone to come rescue him, he remembers his long romance with the love of his life, his wife Ruth.
