Summary

Chapter 20 takes place in the present. Gavin awakes in the hospital and learns that he was shot in the arm. Daniel explains that Deval panicked, thinking Gavin was someone else. Daniel is at the hospital in an official capacity, investigating the shooting. In order to protect Anna, he tells Gavin that he’s going to write it up that Gavin went to the wrong room and interrupted a drug deal. Daniel finally tells Gavin and he ran off with Anna because she told him the baby was his and that they broke up after the baby was born. Anna was fearful that if she stayed with Gavin he would call the authorities about the problems she had at home and was scared they would take the baby from her. Gavin tells him he’ll forget who shot him if Anna...
