Summary

Chapter 1 introduces Anna at 17 currently in hiding with her infant daughter, Chloe, somewhere in Virginia. Under the stroller is a stash of over $100,000 in cash. The focus shifts to South Carolina and introduces Jack playing piano while high on pain killers. His roommate left for Virginia to rescue a girl.

Chapter 2 moves 10 years into the future and introduces Gavin. He has just broken up with his girlfriend Karen and the shower is leaking. Gavin works as a reporter for the New York Star, but it isn’t the dream job he thought it would be. He wears a fedora and carries an old camera.
