Part 1: Chapter 14: Alex and Chapter 15: Argument Summary

Alex approaches Charlie and initiates conversation, but his demeanor isn't exactly friendly. He tells his friends that Charlie is a black belt, and one of them begins belittling Charlie almost right away. Alex tells Charlie he knows that Charlie is interested in Beth and has intentions of asking her out. Charlie keeps himself in check. One of Alex's friends, (Charlie calls him Crew Cut guy) takes a swing at Charlie who easily side steps it and slaps the attack away. Crew Cut guy is more than willing to try again, but Alex stops him by telling him that Charlie will put him in the hospital. Charlie gives Alex a one-fingered salute and suggests that he call sometime... that they could talk - privately. Charlie gets into the Explorer and before he pulls away...
