Chapter 4, The Acrobats of Desire Summary

The Acrobats of Desire. Desiderio learns that Albertina, the daughter of Dr. Hoffman, has told the professor to take Desiderio in. It seems that Dr. Hoffman has decided that Desiderio is not a threat to them. The professor also tells Desiderio that the peepshow items are samples that Dr. Hoffman created that help control the desire machine in some way. It is the professor's job to keep the samples safe. The professor also tells Desiderio more about the doctor's research partner, Mendoza. Mendoza had a theory that at the moment of perfect sexual release the body produces a perfect energy. This theory caused Mendoza to be kicked out of school, but Dr. Hoffman apparently continued to work with him. Eventually, however, Mendoza and Dr. Hoffman had a falling out over a woman, Albertina's mother.
