Malcolm Gephardt

Malcolm Gephardt is one of the two protagonists in The Half Moon. At the outset of the narrative, when he is closing the bar before the storm, his friends, Patrick and Siobhán tell him that Jess is seeing Neil. In the following days, when the town is shut down from the snowstorm, Malcolm is unable to distract himself with activity and is forced to confront the grief and loss he feels over his failed marriage. When he was thirty, Jess got pregnant for the first time, and they decided to get married as soon as possible. He was sure that Hugh would sell the bar soon and felt optimistic about their future as young parents pursuing their career goals.
