Book 4, Chapter 16 Summary

Kay gasps in wonder when she catches her first sight of Sicily from the airplane window. Against Michael's wishes, she insisted they come here on vacation. For years Kay has felt like an outsider, governed by Sicilian rules when she's never even set foot on the island. This trip means a lot to her. The plane is greeted by a large crowd of people, waiting to pay their respects to Don Corleone and his wife. Two unarmed carabinieri board the plane before they can disembark, and hold a hushed conference with Michael. Kay learns the men have warned Michael about a potential plot against them; they will fly on to Rome and she will not be permitted to see Sicily. She's angry. In the two years since they've reconciled, she's been pretty much a single mother with Michael, who is away...
