Seattle

Seattle is a port city in Washington state that was essentially made by the business powerhouse of Campbell Lines. Seattle of the 1880s in the novel is largely racist, especially against its Chinese population. The Chinese are driven out of Seattle and put on one of Campbell’s boats, only to later be drowned.

Seattle of the present day is tolerant and inclusive, but very quiet about its dark past. Seattle in the present day is home to Inara and her family, her family’s expanded shipping company, Premier Maritime Group, and is home to Daniel, his family, and his mother’s Chinese food restaurant business.
