Blomkvist spends the night with Berger. The couple discusses Zalachenko's story. It does not matter to Blomkvist that Berger has accepted the job with SPM since he trusts her completely. Additionally, Berger does not consider taking the story with her to the new publication even though she has done extensive work on the project. The story belongs to Millennium. The couple also discusses Berger's future and her decision to retain stock in Millennium and to keep her position on the board of directors. The couple jokes that the biggest difference is that they may have to start making appointments to see each other. This is additionally complicated by the fact that Berger is married.

After Berger leaves, Blomkvist attempts to get information regarding Salander's condition. The hospital refuses to give out any information. Erlander tells Blomkvist...
