Luna

Luna is the youngest baby in the Protectorate, so she is taken from her parents of the Day of Sacrifice. Her mother carries her child to the rafters in their home and she refuses to give the child up. However, in the end, the Council carries the baby into the forest where they leave her to die. Xan finds her and carries her to the Free Cities. She is entranced by the baby's deep black eyes and the distinct crescent moon birthmark on her forehead. Xan decides to take the baby on a longer journey than normal because something about the baby makes Xan want to spend time with her. One night, Xan accidentally feeds the baby moonlight.
