Crystal is an incredibly wealthy suburb in Colorado. Almost all of the residents are white, everyone over 20 is married, and most young couples have several children. Despite the demographics, Crystal is also extremely progressive. They vote and think liberally, and have new-age ideas about race, class, gender, and sexuality. The residents are obsessed with appearances and there is a constant drive to keep up appearances and outshine the neighbors.
