The Pull of Spain/Loyalty and Love of Country

The majority of this novel is set in Spain, and most of the characters have some connection to the country that pulls at them, either prompting them to return to the country or to devote themselves to it. Three of the characters, Daniel, Christina, and Maria feel a connection that brings them back to Spain and prompts them to hold onto their Spanish heritage even when they are in America. Some of the other characters devote their lives to Spain and believe wholeheartedly in their country and its leaders. Still others fight to make the country into their own, some going so far as to give their lives for the cause.
