Summary

In Chapter 11, Ben and Daniel strike up a conversation over the elegant dinner. Daniel later turns his attention to Nick, who says Shep is working on “the paperwork for the orphanage deal” (52) for Daniel's parents. Daniel pretends he knows what Nick is talking about.

In Chapter 12, Daniel wonders if his parents are adopting a child because Daniel has no interest in the family oil business. Ana arrives. This time she introduces herself by name and says Maria wants him. In Maria's room down the hall, Maria issues several instructions to Ana. She senses Daniel's concern and assures him she is accustomed to running errands for guests. She agrees to take Daniel to a camera shop to get his film developed while she is picking up a gift for Maria to take to a dinner.
