Chess

Chess is a symbol of the relationship between Avery and Toby. Avery met Toby right after her mother died. She knew him as a homeless man named Harry with whom she played chess in the park. It was only later that she learned that Harry was actually Tobias Hawthorne’s adopted son, Toby.
