In chapter nineteen, Thursday runs into Colonel Phelps, who asks her to attend his speech later in the week, assuring her that the new plasma rifle will change the tide of the war. Phelps promises to send a car for her. Later in the day, Thursday goes to visit the memorial erected in a church yard to her brother Anton. While there, Thursday runs into the church pastor who happens to be her other brother, Joffy. As they talk over tea, Thursday learns that Landen comes often to the memorial and keeps it nice for Anton.
