Summary

In Chapter 7 the family sees bloody bodies on the streets which Tutu calls sleeping people. They come across a young rebel boy with a gun pointed at a man in the street whom Papa recognizes. Papa gives the rebel money to let the man go, and it turns out it is Amos, a friend of his. Amos tells them the border to Ghana and Sierra Leone is not fully open, as only some people are being allowed to pass through. Amos tells Papa that Doe is refusing to step down and that Taylor and Prince Johnson – the other prince aiming to take down Doe – are killing Krahn people and government people in an effort to force him to step down.

Chapter 8 sees Tutu reminiscing about their home and the way Papa would play with his daughters and roar and topple them all over...
