Summary

In Chapter 6, Penny studied herself in the mirror. She “felt flat” realizing how alone she was (64). Having collected Burt’s toupee after his hospitalization, Penny washed it in the sink. Outside the restroom, she ran into another tenant.

Penny drove to Doris and Arlo’s. Although Penny told Doris Arlo did not want “to go to a facility,” Doris threatened her (67). Penny discussed the situation with Arlo. He agreed to visit the Palms, a facility where he already had an approved application. After their visit, he agreed to move in.

After leaving Arlo, Penny felt unwell, which often happened when she “had to do things [she] didn’t like” (73). While returning Arlo’s car, Penny indulged in nostalgia. She collected Burt’s van and headed to the hospital.
