New York

Most of the short stories from The Dinner Party are set in New York. The hustle and bustle of this huge city serves as the backdrop for the interactions between couples. A Night Out, The Breeze and Fragments all give the reader the experience of living in New York. While the city moves around them, the characters in these stories are so involved with their personal stories that they at times fail to interact with the dynamic city around them.

Prague

The protagonist in Life in the Heart of the Dead is forced to go to Prague for work. At first he fails to interact with the beautiful city around him, confining himself to his hotel room. It is only when he agrees to go on a walking tour that he gets to experience the life and history of a different culture.
