Summary

Part 5 and Chapter 54 begins with The Maine in increasingly rough waters. Jack notices the boats and Mac thinks about which move to make to avoid them, or outmaneuver them. The Zhuk is coming at him from the west, and the Stenka from the east. Mac knows if he cannot outpace both boats if he goes north, and if he goes south he gets back into low tide and the Cuban archipelago, so instead decides to get away from the Stenka that is faster and has cannons, and go straight west towards the Zhuk, that has machine guns, thinking they can outgun them and maybe put off the Stenka. Felipe comes back up and starts calling Mac crazy, but Mac tells him to go below. Felipe pulls out Mac’s gun and points it at Mac telling him to turn the boat south. Sara...
