Summary

Chapter 19, "Decisions," returns to Iris and Maddy as Nola and Link come inside with the puppy, now named Lassie at John’s suggestion, and ask for some twine for Link to use for an experiment that will answer a question for Abby. Iris knows that Abby believes in complete honesty with children, and although Iris and Maddy have seen no change in Abby except for some fatigue, they believe the experiment to be about her health outcomes. Iris extends Link tender empathy for the difficult times at home, and offers her assistance in any way needed, which Link shrugs off as not so bad ad soon to be over.
