Summary

Chapter 5 marks the beginning of September. Susan got home from her mother’s funeral and set out to email the executor of her mother’s estate, Mr. Brinkworth, but she was interrupted by a knock on her door. She opened it to find Richard. The narrative action paused, and Susan explained that she had met Richard, an art critic, twelve years prior. She had happened across a singles ad in the newspaper and had responded to it on a whim. She had gotten along well with Richard, and had continued to see him once a week when he was in London for work for the past decade. They had agreed to be casual from the beginning, and had never had any issues. But when Susan discovered she was pregnant, she had texted him and told him that she no longer wanted to see...
