Summary

In Chapter 28, Jerome goes to see his friend Ed Ashtree, who is a tribal leader. Ed, who believes Jerome “played second fiddle to Naomi” (160), invites Jerome to spend the night so they can go look at the bundle Jerome found the following day. Jerome declines, feeling he should not be away from Naomi overnight because she has nightmares.

Naomi is on the street when she sees the man with the scarred face, but he disappears before she can confront him. She notes the man with the glasses and is disgusted that he does not even try to hide the fact that he is a cop. She even stops to speak to him for a moment.
