Chapters 21-24 Summary

In chapter twenty-one, agents of the Mossad are working to not only find Backman, but to kill him. Just recently they have received information that Backman is in Italy. At the same time, the Chinese have recently learned from an American informant where Backman is. The Russians are approached with an offer of information, but they turn it down. The Saudis learn about Backman from a reluctant informant in Riyadh.

In chapter twenty-two, Backman is given a new tour of Colle della Guardia by Francesca, but she is distracted and keeps repeating herself. As they talk, Backman finds himself revealing some truth to Francesca, including his time in prison. They continue to walk and Francesca falls, injuring her ankle. Backman finds the caretaker and has him drive Francesca down the mountain to her apartment. Backman escorts her upstairs, where he meets...
