Chapters 36-40 Summary

In chapter 36, Hal Yamataka hears an odd noise and finds Frank is gone. Startled, Hal enlists the help of the staff in locating Pollard. Hearing flute-like music Hal turns to find Frank in bed talking about fireflies in a windstorm before he vanishes again. Frank appears again, begging Hal to stop him. Before Hal can react, Frank disappears again, along with the metal bed rail he had been gripping. Unable to overcome his shock, Hal dials the Dakotas at home.

In chapter 37 Bobby and Julie drive to the hospital. Arriving at the hospital the two hear the tale of Hal's experience with Frank. The three investigators settle in to wait, and witness Frank appearing and vanishing a few more times before he returns for good. Frank is obviously shaken.
