Summary

"Satan’s Interviews – Death": Satan, dressed all in white, settles in for a conversation with his son, Death, dressed all in black. Conversation reveals that they are in the apartment of a man named Jacob where, narration reveals, there is a new plant sitting awkwardly in an old pot, and where there are photographs on the mantlepiece of young men taken by Death. Conversation reveals that Death and Satan are there to decide Jacob’s fate, and that Satan has only recently come back into Jacob’s life, while Death was present at Jacob’s conception, an event he remembers vividly because of “that carpet” (6).
