Summary

In Chapter IV, “Husband and Wife,” Nagare asked Kazu if she was thinking about Kaname. Because Kazu was pregnant, he advised her to “have the baby” (202).

Kiyoshi entered the café. He wanted to return to the past to give his wife, Kimiko, the necklace Kazu helped him choose for her. Nagare and Kazu were surprised Kimiko was dead. A year prior, Kiyoshi had learned that one could “return to the past in this café” (205). Afterwards, he looked “into the people who [had] returned to the past” (207). Only four had traveled to “meet someone who had died” (207). Kiyoshi revealed that Kimiko had died on her birthday 30 years prior. They were supposed to meet at the café, but Kiyoshi had failed to show up. On her way there, Kimiko was involved in a mugging, and killed. Kiyoshi had “lived with a constant regret” ever...
