Section 2 The Diary pp. 15-44. Summary

Suzanne, as writer of the diary, writes to her two week old son. She wants him to have a record of his life in writing as well as on video. She tells him that she wants to start the diary before he is born and before she met his daddy. Her story begins with her telling about being a doctor and having a boyfriend. She takes her Golden Retriever, Gus, for a walk one day in Boston. Gus chases one of the ducks from the nearby pond where they have the swan boats. While he is gone, Suzanne has pain in her upper body. It is so severe she falls to the ground and wakes up in the hospital. She is sure she is going to die. She has a coronary bypass and has time...
