Summary

Essay 5 is titled "The Mayor of Williams Park." Sarah met with G.W. Rolle, a hefty, tall black man who volunteered at the Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. G.W. was an ordained minister who ran Missio Dei in the basement of Trinity Lutheran. G.W. was the subject of a documentary called Easy Street, which detailed G.W. living on the streets since the age of 14. He spent five years in prison for manslaughter and also received a scholarship to Syracuse University, majoring in philosophy and English. G.W. wrote about homelessness and was scheduled to present a paper on the topic in Switzerland, but was denied a passport because of an outstanding warrant.
