Prologue and Chapters 1-3 Summary

Sunset Express is the sixth novel featuring Elvis Cole, a private detective who lives in Los Angeles. In a previous novel Elvis met Lucy Chenier, a lawyer from Louisiana, with whom he has become romantically involved over the intervening three months.

In the prologue, a young girl and her father are out for their routine Saturday morning run when they spot a body lying below the parking lot for a scenic overlook. The father flags down a local security officer who calls the police. When the detectives arrive, Angela Rossi volunteers to climb down to the body. Rossi takes pictures of the body as it lies wrapped in garbage bags. Rossi then opens the bag, takes a picture of the victims face and searches for a murder weapon. Finding nothing, Rossi climbs back up to the parking...
