Summary

In 26: Chicken Poop and Store-Bought Clothes, Stella is doing one of her least-favorite chores: removing the dirty hay from the chicken coop and replacing it with fresh hay. When she completes the task, Mama tells Stella to go and collect the ripe vegetables from the garden. Just as she is about to head for the garden, Carolyn comes running up to the house, clutching a book. She asks Mama if Stella can pause her chores to look at the book, if Carolyn agrees to help her later. The three women then sit down in the kitchen and examine the book, which is the year’s Sears and Roebuck catalog.
