Summary

In 7: Piano Frogs, the students arrive at their one-room schoolhouse where their teacher Mrs. Grayson awaits them. After the students say the Pledge of Allegiance and have a morning prayer, Mrs. Grayson addresses the previous night’s Klan meeting She gives the students an already-familiar warning: “Don’t ever walk alone--stay in groups” (44). Innocent Jojo is in disbelief that the Klan would hurt children.

After this, Mrs. Grayson tells the students they are going to start preparing for the Christmas pageant, which Stella finds suspicious. When Mrs. Grayson opens the piano to begin practicing, two frogs leap out. Mrs. Grayson demands to know who is responsible, and believes one of the mischievous boys to be at fault. Finally, a young girl named Claudia Odom raises her hand and admits it was her.
